I understand that to participate in the WorkFirst program, I must receive the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) grant. Benefits must be open each month to participate in the WorkFirst program. Please work with your case manager and complete any requested documents and eligibility reviews.
I will attend all scheduled meetings with the GHC WorkFirst Coordinator.
- I will meet with the WorkFirst Coordinator before classes start each quarter.
- I will schedule and attend a mid-quarters check-in with the WorkFirst Coordinator.
I will maintain regular contact with the GHC WorkFirst staff.
- I will utilize phone, email, and Canvas messaging to communicate with the GHC WorkFirst staff.
- I will update the WorkFirst Coordinator if my contact information has changed.
- I will meet with the GHC WorkFirst Coordinator before adding or withdrawing from classes
I will enroll in only WorkFirst-approved classes/programs.
- If I change my degree pathway at any time, I must notify the WorkFirst Coordinator before I do so. Changes to my pathway may directly affect my eligibility for the WorkFirst program and could impact your financial aid.
- Some programs that were not work-first approved are now allowable. Please work with the coordinator to determine if your chosen program could still be used towards work-first participation.
I will make satisfactory academic progress by:
- Students Taking College Level Classes
- Earning a 2.0 or better in my college-level courses and completing at least 50% of my enrolled credits.
- I understand that if I don’t make satisfactory academic progress, I may need to file a Financial Aid appeal and request more funds.
- Students Taking Transitions Classes
- Meeting GHC Transitions Programs standards for attendance, participation, and progression. Please work with transitions for determine.
- Students Taking Life Skills Classes
- You and the Workfirst Coordinator determine whether you can complete assignments in the Life skills canvas class or alternative methods.
- Whatever method you use, you will complete assignments promptly to receive participation hours.
I will let my WorkFirst Coordinator know if I struggle with classes as early as possible.
- Students struggling with classes may be referred to the Learning center or tutor for additional assistance.
Students taking classes. I will meet WorkFirst participation requirements by attending all scheduled classes and understanding the following:
- I must participate per week in the hours agreed upon on the back of this contract.
- I will record my attendance/absences through CANVAS's Online Attendance Reporting Form or alternative form.
- I will submit my Online Attendance Reporting Form weekly, no later than 5 pm each Friday.
- You may be asked to resubmit your weekly attendance form if inaccuracies exist. I understand I will complete these requests promptly.
- My DSHS case manager will be notified if I have two or more absences in a month.
- I will make up all hours missed due to absences by the end of the month in which they were missed.
- Failure to submit attendance will be treated as unexcused absences and will be reported to DSHS
The WorkFirst program does not guarantee tuition and book assistance every quarter.
- Financial assistance is not guaranteed for various reasons (funds available, need basis, Financial Aid award, WorkFirst eligibility, satisfactory academic progress, etc.).
- The WorkFirst program can’t provide financial assistance directly to students unless specified.
I understand that the WorkFirst Coordinator submits award authorizations to Financial Aid and that they are not a guarantee of financial assistance. Financial Aid makes the final determination based on available funds to be awarded to a student. If you disagree with this decision, discuss it with Financial Aid.
I will treat ALL faculty, staff, and fellow students, including anyone associated with GHC and workforce funding, with respect. Any disrespect could affect your financing (at the coordinator's discretion) and your continuation of participation at Grays Harbor College Workfirst.
Keep in mind that the Funding office is scent-free. If you are wearing a scent, you will be asked to meet in another office or asked to reschedule. Please note that this is due to an allergy to scents in our building.
I will continue with all activities identified in my Individual Responsibility Plan.
